Denali
Alaska

July 23-24, 2023

Denali National Park and Preserve is over 6 million acres of wilderness beauty.  The park has a single road and a few hiking trails.  Otherwise it is open for hiking, climbing, camping and exploring with very few limitations.

Personal vehicles are only allowed into the park as far as the Savage River Trailhead, about 15 miles.  To go further you need to take a Park Service bus.

The first day we drove to Savage River and hiked for a couple of hours.  The next day we spent 5 hours on the bus for an 86-mile roundtrip visit.  We saw a lot of gorgeous scenery and a few animals.  The park is so large, the animals aren't crowded into the areas where tourists visit, so sightings are not a given
